Girls Night University - Investing 101

Girls Night University Launches with Investing 101
We officially kicked off something we’ve been dreaming about for a while - the very first Girls Night University class.
Our first topic? Investing 101.
Hosted at Two Rivers Distillery in Calgary, the evening brought together 46 incredible women who showed up ready to learn, ask questions, and start having more open conversations about money and investing.
And honestly, the energy in the room was exactly what we hoped for.
Curious, supportive, and full of women who were excited to finally start understanding something that can often feel overwhelming when you’re first getting started.
What is Girls Night University?
Girls Night University is a new series from YYC Girls Night designed to create space for women to learn real-life skills in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
So many of us were never actually taught things like investing, personal finance, or financial planning growing up. And when you try to learn it later in life, it can feel intimidating.
Girls Night University is meant to change that.
These classes are designed to feel more like a conversation than a lecture - a space where women can ask questions, learn together, and build confidence around topics that matter.
Investing 101 at Two Rivers Distillery
For our first class, we were thrilled to host the evening at Two Rivers Distillery, one of Calgary’s most unique local venues.
The relaxed setting created the perfect atmosphere for an event like this - social, welcoming, and far from the intimidating feeling that financial seminars sometimes have.
Guests arrived, grabbed a drink, settled in, and quickly started chatting with the women around them.
With 46 women in the room, the space was full of curiosity and excitement about the conversation ahead.
A Conversation with Perry Wulder of Edward Jones
To guide the evening, we welcomed Perry Wulder from Edward Jones, who joined us to walk through the fundamentals of investing and answer some of the most common questions people have when they’re first starting out.
Rather than a traditional presentation, the conversation was moderated by YYC Girls Night founder Alanna Pearson, who asked Perry questions throughout the evening to keep things relaxed, conversational, and easy to follow.
This format helped break down topics that can often feel intimidating, including:
The difference between stocks, ETFs, and mutual funds
How someone might start investing if they’ve never done it before
How long-term investments actually grow over time
Guests were encouraged to ask questions throughout the discussion, which quickly turned the room into a collaborative conversation rather than a one-way presentation.
And that’s exactly what we hoped it would be.
A Room Full of Curious Women
One of the most powerful parts of the evening was realizing how many women were in the exact same place in their investing journey.
Some guests had never invested before.
Others had started but wanted to understand more.
And many simply wanted to feel more confident about their financial future.
Seeing 46 women show up for the very first Girls Night University class was honestly incredible.
It reinforced something we’ve believed for a long time - there are so many women who want to learn about these topics, they just need the right space to do it.
Why We Created Girls Night University
We started Girls Night University because we kept hearing the same thing over and over:
"I wish someone had taught me this earlier."
Whether it’s investing, financial literacy, business skills, or other life topics, many women are looking for spaces where they can learn in a way that feels welcoming and accessible.
Girls Night University is meant to be exactly that.
A place where you can show up, ask questions, learn something new, and leave feeling a little more confident than when you arrived.
What’s Next
If the turnout and energy at Investing 101 were any indication, we’re incredibly excited about what Girls Night University could become.
This series will continue to host classes in Calgary focused on topics like financial literacy, personal growth, business, and other real-life skills women are eager to learn.
And if our first class proved anything, it’s that there’s a whole community of women ready to learn together.
Thank You
A big thank you to Two Rivers Distillery for hosting us and to Perry Wulder from Edward Jones for sharing his expertise with the Girls Night University community.
And of course, thank you to the 46 women who showed up for our very first class and helped make the night such a success.
We can’t wait to see you at the next one.
